Scholarship winners Anthonia Okoh and Olga Samokhvalova

Congratulations to Anthonia Okoh, Sharp Memorial Hospital volunteer and 1st year MEPN student at USD as well as Olga Samokhvalova, Sharp Memorial Hospital volunteer, and 1st year MEPN student at USD. Both MEPN students were selected as the 2015 Daniel L Gross Scholars from the Sharp Metro campus.

The scholarship is named in honor of Dan Gross, RN, DNSc, executive vice president for Sharp HealthCare, who began his career at Sharp as a clinical nurse in 1979 and earned his DNSc from USD. Over the years, Dan has embodied the compassion, innovation, and leadership that nurses bring to health care. This new scholarship is designed to help provide economic assistance to those interested in making similar contributions through a career in nursing.

Each year, up to two worthy recipients will receive scholarships in the amount of $2,500. Applications were open to all Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus (SMMC) employees, adult volunteers, and contracted vendors (e.g., Sodexo), as well as their spouses and children.
