You are working so hard to earn that coveted RN. Don’t get in trouble with a simple mistake on social media!
With the growth of online media, nurses are increasingly using blogs, forums, and social networking sites to share their experiences. Disclosing patient information on internet social media is a violation of the Nursing Practice Act. Any patient information gleaned during the course of treatment must be safeguarded. Nurses have an ethical and legal obligation to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. The Board generally seeks a fine amount of $2,500, however, a fine could be as much as $5,000 for these violations.
