Olivia Mayo Britney Taganes
Olivia Mayo and Britney Taganes recently received scholarships from the Philippine Nurses Association of San Diego County. In addition to maintaining a high GPA while in nursing school, volunteering in their local communities, and participating in the Philippine Nurses Association of San Diego, the scholarship winners were required to write an essay about what changes they would make in health care in order to provide a safe environment for patient care when they become a new nurse leaders. Olivia, who came to the MEPN program with a BA degree in Health Care Policy and Spanish Studies discussed her interest in developing health care policies to improve patient outcomes. She is especially interested in reducing hospital acquired infections. Britney, having worked as a health care educator prior to embarking on the MEPN program and holding a BS degree in Public Health discussed her interest in implementing evidenced based research to increase quality improvement strategies for patient care delivery.
